    Spindale, with a population of 4,022 and a total area of 5.5 sq. miles was once a bustling mill town. In the past several years the town has begun transforming itself as a friendly small town becoming home to a main street full of shops and restaurants to include Sakura Express, Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria, The Coop and Spin City Corner Cafe.     Isothermal Community College is also located in Spindale and offers numerous degrees and continuing education courses.  This beautiful campus is also home to The Foundation Performing Arts and Conference Center which offers a very broad range of music and theatre on its annual roster. A few of the mills in town, which are now closed, have been refurbished as warehouses, and others may be converted into housing as part of the towns renovation plan.  Lakeside Mills, a working flour mill, represents the town’s legacy as a North Carolina mill town. Spindale is home to the Rutherford County Farmer’s Market from May through November and offers a fall festival as well.  You will find one of the new Western North Carolina retirement communities in Spindale called Sparks Crossing.  This community has individual houses and a clubhouse and is close to the North Carolina rail trail, a popular recreation area running eight miles through Rutherford County which include three miles in Spindale.

    Spindale is proud to be a part of the Thermal Belt Rail Trail – over 13 miles long and a 12-foot wide trail running through Rutherford County.
